Mgr. Philip Whitmore

Rector

Monsignor Philip Whitmore, lately Rector of the English College in Rome, has been responsible for the formation of priests from all over England and Wales, as well as the Nordic countries. He has also been actively involved in the setting up of the North American Friends of the Venerable English College. In 2010 he was appointed a Prelate of the Apostolic Camera.

Fr. Domenico Lando

I came to St James’s, Spanish Place, in 2026 to serve as Assistant Priest. I am a priest of the Diocese of Oppido Mamertina-Palmi, in Calabria, Italy. I was ordained to the priesthood on 21 November 2017 and began my ministry in a number of pastoral and educational roles within my diocese.

My academic background is in languages, literature and philosophy. In addition to a Bachelor’s degree in Linguistic Mediation, I hold two Master’s degrees: one in Modern Languages and Literatures and another in Philosophy. These studies have complemented my priestly formation and my experience of teaching and pastoral ministry.

I also have a strong background in music. I studied at the Conservatorio di Musica “F. Cilea” in Reggio Calabria, where I obtained Diplomas in Flute and Singing, and subsequently pursued further studies in choral conducting and composition. Music has also played an important role in my priestly ministry, particularly in the service of the Sacred Liturgy.

Before coming to London, I served in several parishes in Calabria, including as parish priest and rector of a diocesan shrine. I also served in diocesan roles in the areas of liturgy and Sacred Music, including as Director of the Diocesan Liturgy Office and Director of the Diocesan Choir. I also taught liturgy and sacred music.

At St James’s, I am also involved in the pastoral care of the Young Adults Group, accompanying its members in their journey of faith and helping to foster a welcoming community where they can deepen their relationship with Christ, grow in friendship and prayer, and take an active part in the life of the Church.

The Sacred Liturgy, music, study and pastoral ministry remain important aspects of my priestly vocation. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the community of St James’s, to get to know its parishioners, and to contribute to the spiritual and pastoral life of the parish.
